Granby is one of fifty-four communities in Connecticut receiving the Discovery Grant from the William Caspar Memorial Fund, a private foundation which is also part of the Governor's Early Childhood Education Cabinet. The mission of the Discovery Grant is to strengthen the education of Connecticut's children, birth through age eight, by improving connections between early childcare and public education, by providing support to families of young learners and by strengthening involvement of parents and community in the education of the state's children. This is to be accomplished by forming a collaboration of people from across the community who are focused on these issues, and by involving parents in the process.

To achieve this, we will:

  • Increase community awareness and understanding of the importance of early child care and education in order to create a common public goal

  • Support and empower parents as their child's first teacher

  • Advocate for Granby children birth to age 5 and their families by connecting appropriate organizations with families' needs

  • Effectively partner with the school's kindergarten team to create a successful transition from the early childcare environment to kindergarten
