The Granby Early Childhood Council (GECC) is a collaborative of diverse individuals whose interest is the well-being of all children pre-birth to age five. We advocate for policies and practices which ensure that "all children arrive at school healthy and socially and emotionally prepared for academic success and life-long learning."

Our #1 goal is to have all children arrive into kindergarten healthy and socially and emotionally prepared for academic success and life-long learning.

To achieve this, we will:

  • Increase community awareness and understanding of the importance of early child care and education in order to create a common public goal.
  • Support and empower parents as their child's first teacher and advocate with a continuum of parent engagement opportunities.
  • Enhance the capacity of all care givers to provide quality developmentally appropriate care of young children through professional development opportunities.
  • Effectively partner with the school's kindergarten team to create a successful transition from the early childcare environment to kindergarten.

Tips For Supporting Your Child's Development
While reading to your child try different positions. Try having them sit opposite you and hold the book off to your side. Sitting in a story circle at preschool can be difficult at first when the child is used to always sitting on your lap.
